The PolyPaf, played by signature artist Adam "Nolly" Getgood.
Taking the past into the future: PolyPaf
We are very pleased to release into the wild the PolyPaf, our latest signature pickup set in collaboration with our great friend, Adam "Nolly" Getgood. After initially making his name through playing with progressive metal bands such as Red Seas Fire and Periphery, Nolly turned his priorities more towards production and audio engineering, becoming one the the most respected and sought-after tone gurus in the industry. Adam has an unquenchable thirst for the exploration and unravelling of what goes into the making of truly great tones, and we are thrilled to work with him again on this modern take on the classic PAF-style set.
Our first signature model with Nolly - the Polymath - aimed to be a swiss army knife of tone shaping for the modern progressive rock / fusion player, but this time, the objective was very much turned to the origins of humbucker tone, building on the foundations of our Mule and Stormy Monday humbuckers to realise Nolly's vision of how a historic Patent-applied-for humbucker should sound in a modern playing context.
“I wanted the PolyPafs to be true players’ pickups. The bridge is ready to go anywhere your picking hand takes it - all manner of stunning tones from plaintive cleans, vocal jazz-fusion leads and raunchy open chords to gnarly, aggressive riffing can be had at your slightest command. Where some PAF-style bridge pickups can feel weak and even harsh when driven, the PolyPaf bridge stands up to even the gainiest of tones with its rich midrange and firm low end.
Switch to the neck position and you’ll find the most addictively responsive gem of a humbucker - breathtakingly sensitive and expressive, articulate, syrupy, turning to woody and percussive when played hard, all the while with an easy playing feel that keeps you connected to the music at all times. As a bonus, it also matches wonderfully with the Polymath bridge too!” - Nolly
Far from being a straight replica of any one particular historic set, the Polypaf humbuckers employ several unique twists to hone their performance for the modern player: high carbon alloys are used in the manufacture of the slug pole pieces to control the low end on the wound strings which, in conjunction with the unoriented Alnico V magnets, keep the response balanced and focused with an engaging, uncompressed feel. Custom offset 42AWG coils bring out definition in the mids, perfectly balancing that dynamic headroom with midrange drive so you can express every nuance and emotion. The open voice, trim bass and string separation brings everything you play into sharp focus even when using super low tunings and thick string gauges.
Put simply, the PolyPafs are a pickup set that cherish the tradition of classic humbucker design, whilst delivering the versatility, energy and feel that modern players require.
