Bare knuckle Pick ups
So here are the famed hand wound pick ups made in Ireland ( ! ).The pick up configuration used is a Emerald humbucker and two Irish tour single coils. One can admire the great care taken to isolate and to wire the pick ups and components through the body.
One volume pot and tone control , a 5 way selector and a small 3 way switch for parallel, split or series. Well, the pick ups really pack a serious punch !
I started the test using the humbucker on a valve amp , foot right down , using full distortion to 'feel the heat'. A dynamic attack , an agressive and biting tone , with a modern touch for the connaisseur.
Those who like overdriven sounds will be happy , because with full distortion notes keep their definition. The neck pick up excels in rich and warm saturated sounds. The crunch sounds are prodigious , light and subtil ( in split mode) for nice dirty bluesy rythms. One can play anything ( any style )! The intermediate selector positions give all the options needed for cristal clear clean tones.
The Devil's guitar is beautiful and well made , it's marriage with the Bare knuckle pick ups is a total succes.
Distributed by " Custom Shop ", the Devil's can be custom made and supplied within 8 weeks.
Supplied with a Hiscox case for 3300 euros
We loved : beautiful and original aesthestics, the finish and the fabulous sound of the bare knuckle pick ups.
We regretted : the slightly high action for fast solos , and the price tag.
Notes out of ten :
Overdriven sounds : 10
Crunch sounds : 10
Clean sounds : 9
Quality/price : 8+
